| | | Microscope Lighting - 20w Halogen, sufficient? Evening all,
My Apex Examiner 20x stereomicroscope has developed a dodgy switch to the built-in LED lamp. I've had it a while so I can't return it very easily. I have been using natural sunlight coming into my room as a lighting source recently, and as you can imagine it isn't always convenient - I can't work too early as I have to wait for he sun to rise, and as soon as it starts to get dark I have to stop. Annoying!
So... today, I purchased a mains-powered 12v gooseneck desk lamp online complete with a 20w halogen bulb to use as microscope lighting. On paper, it seems good enough - but do you think it sounds sufficient in theory?
Take care, Jason |

I use something similar & find a 20watt halogen bulb perfectly adequate.

| | | Re: Microscope Lighting - 20w Halogen, sufficient? Thanks both. Maybe I should have asked for suggestions first, but glad to hear it should be OK.
Peter, does the 20w halogen work well as a good photographic lightsource too (so I don't have to take my collection outside/use my camera's flash)? |

| | | Re: Microscope Lighting - 20w Halogen, sufficient? Well, it's arrived! Nice light, the output is a little ' yellow', but adequately bright when the head is angled down close enough to the specimen plate. It does make your hands a little warm though... still, it feels great to have light at any time of day though - no more waiting for the Sun to rise! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
