| | | ticks Hi all.
While doing some gardening i found what i think was a tick, around 2-3cm, white, slightly elongated body, and i think orange/red legs.
Could it have been something else? I am not a fan of bugs, and even less so of blood sucking variety and don't really wan't to go i the garden again
Is there any thing i can do to discourage them from the garden? I am guessing not as it is a wildlife garden and i don't want to chop everything down.

| | | Re: ticks If it was 2-3cm long then I don't think there's any way it could be a tick. Even a fully engorged one like the one in the photo on your link would only be perhaps 0.5cm maximum in length.

| | | Re: ticks They drop off animals have you got a dog or a cat.
I have seen one like this that came off my dog I think its possible a deer or sheep tic they hang onto grass and when a host brushes past the latch on.
Not nice things to have in the garden..
Could even come from a hedgehog.. |

Horrible things!
Where there are ticks about you have to be vigilant and remove them ASAP, if you find one on you. |

Rob your right about the size, just got out the tape measure and it was no where near 3cm, my around 0.5cm (It did look huge honest)
Kayleigh, no cats or dogs but there are hedgehogs around.
Looks like i'll have to keep everything trimmed back so i am not brushing up against all the bushes.

| | | Re: ticks There are a number of different species of tick found in this country and they vary in size.
I found this one on a wild garlic leaf in woodland during April.
This is a Sheep Tick (I think) which is the largest species and has a body length of around 5 mm. But they can become considerably larger when full of blood.
It takes microscopic examination to fully identify the species. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
