Not bees but narcissus flies - a type of hoverfly- Meredon equestris.
Think you have a male and female and there

Thanks. So that's why the one went down into the pot of dying-off bulbs! I shall have to keep an eye on my pots. Presumably they lay eggs in the soil?

Yes and the larvae eat spring bulbs.
