The distinctive yellow band on antennae are diagnostic of Troilus luridus, a woodland species. Interestingly the nymphs start out as herbivores but predate larvae of beetles + Lepidoptera in later instars.
This is a species I haven't seen yet + REALLY want to see one- maybe next year! |

Many thanks Aeshna5 for the ID. I looked it up and found the following confirmation ...
"12 mm. long. The scutellum is without a pale tip and the legs have dark speckles and bands.The shoulders are developed into blunt-ended processes. A commontree-dwellingl shieldbug in the south of England, rare or absent in the north but spreading. Probably a recent colonist of Cumbria it is becoming increasingly common in our woods and gardens." Virtual Fauna
The bug was found on a tree in a small young plantation, adjacent a 500 acre mixed woodland, near Pont Robert (Welshpool area of Wales).
