Help , None of the books I dentify this
Found some of these today making a meal of my Japanese Acer Palmatum, not sure if it is them or something else chewing up the leaves leaving sliced bits on patio

Hoverfly larvae of some kind I think. If so, it'll be eating the aphids, not the plant.

Can't help any further than that though.

Agree look like Syrphid hoverfly larvae. Something else must be noshing the acer. have a look round the base for grubs ?
