| | | A bunch of flies. Hi all,
Could use some help with a selection of flies from the last few days.
1. Easy one to start with, Tachinid - Gymnocheta viridis, hundreds of these about at the moment.
2. I thought this would be an easy cranefly to Id but I can't find one with the pale stripe down the abdomen like this. She was bobbing along at the edge of a stream, laying her eggs in the wet gravel.
3. Loads of these around too, mainly on nettles, male Scorpion fly but which one, I can't remember where I found info on separating the species.
4. Bibionid?
5. I'm sure this one is familiar from somewhere but just cant place it.
No idea about these three.
6.
7.
8.
Thanks for looking

| | | Re: A bunch of flies. Evening Steve,
I agree with the first, the next looks like a gravid female Cranefly but one I wouldn't like to try identifying from a photo. The fourth is indeed a Bibionid - how big was it, any other images? Five is a Dolichopodidae member I believe.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: A bunch of flies. Thanks both,
I've got some more pics of the Bibio Jason, I'll have a look for other angles. The Dolichopodid I'm fairly sure is Argyra diaphana.
Haven't got any further with the others yet though.

Might just be an unusually hairy B. johannis, although I remember it as being larger than is normal for that species.
