| | | Woodlouse ID Don't often see woodlice with a rounded shell - most of the ones I get in the garden are much flatter- about 14mm long. Didn't seem interested in rolling up when threatened with a blade of grass so not a "pillbug" ?
Thanks for any ID info

It does look most like Armadillidium vulgare to me.But the easiest way to tell if it is a Pill Woodlouse would be to look at a back view of it, where it should have spade shaped Uropods ,instead of long pointy ones.
Cheers Jason. |

| | | Re: Woodlouse ID This is deffinately a "pillbug". I agree with Jason, it does look to be Armadillidium vulgare. The best way to 100% of which one would be as Jason has pointed out.
A. depressum pleonites will appear to more splayed out, they also lack the ability to roll into a complete sphere. Though this can be a little confusing as A.vulgare can demonstrate the sphere like A.nasatum can... incomplete and with antennae left out.
I have very few pics of "woodies", but here is one of A.nasatum. This on is not showing the colour you will normally find this in (i think)? |
