1 A click beetle, possibly Athous haemorroidalis
2 Mirid bug- reminds me of Deraeocoris, but not expert on these!

why are they called click beetles, presumably because they click but what causes them to do it

It's an escape mechanism if they are alarmed.
As I understand it, they have a sort of springload mechanism in the join between the thorax and abdomen, and when they release it, it flicks the abdomen down and propels them into the air. It's also a clumsy self righting mechanism if they get stuck on their back
