Another one from the same bit of woodland as my others. This one was longer - about 9-10mm WL. The eyes are hairy.
I thought I'd post it while I try & key it out - not that I feel very optomistic about making an ID

Without checking the keys; I would suspect C. variabilis here.
Long dark wings and a rather narrow straight sided abdomen. Mostly black legs. It should have 'hairy eyes' although I'm not really sure how that should compare with your specimen.
But this is just a first guess from a total beginner, so it won't count towards a firm ID. |

That looks a very good bet Geoff. It seems I need to check for erect facial hairs.

Yes, it does have very obvious erect facial hairs so I feel certain you must be right. It's not a genus I've really looked at before so it's good to have found 2 so close together. I'll have to see what else I can find
