Syrphid
I thought this was just an ordinary female S.Ribesii but somehow the markings don't look quite right and there seems to be more black on the femoral bases than there should be. I wondered if it could possibly be something else ??
Found in woodland at edge of river. WL 11mm.

Hello Peter

I suspect it might be S. torvus, but would beed to look at eyes for hairs.

Also a need to look at wing microtrichia.

Hello Roger
It definately has hairs on the eyes.
But the microtrichia on the basal cells I'm not so sure about. I've never actually seen them so I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for - should they be obvious with x40 ?
