| | | Bug on rotten log for ID please Treswell Wood, Notts 15 May 2010
Found two of these bugs when turning a rotting log during a fungi foray with FungiJohn. The foray turned into a bug hunt on a pleasant summer's day
There were two of these bugs seemingly keeping close company. They were approx 6 - 10mm in size, and they just wandered about on the log. I can't work out what the filaments are on its rear. Could they be fungal?
Any comments or suggestions appreciated.
Les & John

Possibly Ectobius, such as Tawny and Dusky Cockroach? It is obviously young.I can't say for sure though if it is, I'm not used to seeing them like that.
Cheers Jason.

It's the nymph stage of a Delphacidae Leafhopper ( note distinctive antennae and waxy rear secretion - or whatever that is!).
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: Bug on rotten log for ID please Thanks guys.
We are beginers when it comes to the bugs, so never realised it was a nymph.
Cercopis vulnerata were in abundance on the site, but we did not see any other species of hoppers on the day. Perhaps next time
Appreciate your guidance,
Thanks
Les & John
