| | | Various arthropods for ID I took a few photos this morning, can anyone help me out with IDs for them:
Springtail body 2mm or 3mm including antennae
Spider body 2mm or about 6.5mm including legs, didn't seem interested in eating springtails
Bug, body length is 1.8mm. From the grey shape in the waterdrop under the bug, could this be its wings stuck in the waterdrop? The positioning doesn't look right to me to be wings though.
Mayfly, body about 10mm
Fly, body 4.3mm or 6.5mm including wings.
Thanks

| | | Re: Various arthropods for ID Evening DJ,
The spider may be a young Enoplognatha sp., and the fly looks like Minettia sp. from the Lauxaniid family.

The fly is Minettia longipennis.

| | | Re: Various arthropods for ID Thanks for the help, I'm not sure about the spider being an Enoplognatha sp. though. Looking at the eye pattern for Enoplognatha on Spinnen van Belgi - Araignes de Belgique - Spiders of Belgium, it looks like the side eyes are in a nearly vertical configuration in Enoplognatha, while in my spider they are more like a 45° angle.

| | | Re: Various arthropods for ID I can't tell an enormous difference between your image's arrangement, and the one shown in the link to be honest. Still, I think a head-on photo would be best for comparison purposes. |

| | | Re: Various arthropods for ID Unfortunately I only took top down shots of this spider before it climbed under the water butt lid it was sitting on. I had a look under the water butt lid yesterday to see if I could find it again and get a head-on shot, but it wasn't there anymore (though there was a larger reddish brown spider), so I don't think I'll be able to get any more photos of this indivdual.
Would it be relatively safe to say that it is a Theridiid though? | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
