| | | Re: hovers for id please For what it is worth, my votes go to:
1, Epistophe eligans; 2, Dasysyrphus possibly D. venustus; 3, Cheilosia albitarsis.
But that is not a guaranteed identification. |

| | | Re: hovers for id please Evening NN,
The first is Epistrophe eligans, next is Dasysyrphus friuliensis probably and a Cheilosia sp., which may not be ID'able by image.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: hovers for id please The bars on the Dasysyrphus do look a bit 'waisted' in the middle like D. friuliensis but is Bristol a bit too far south for this species? |

| | | Re: hovers for id please Maybe, and not having much experience with Dasysyrphus I shouldn't have gone that far! |

Any thoughts of C.albitarsis have to take C.ranunculi into account.

please take care with dets of Dasysyrphus. D. friuliensis is pretty rare and I've never seen one in over 25 years recording!
My insticts go to D. venustus but I have a niggling doubt. Problem is that D. venustus is being split - I think there are at least two and possibly more species in the UK from the several that will emerge from Dieter Doczkal
Regards
Roger |
