| | | Dasysyrphus albostriatus ? Hope I've spelt that right
These two hoverflies were in my garden the other day. I've had a look in the Gallery in an attempt to id them myself and think this one might be Dasysyrphus albostiatus ?
and this one possibly Dasysyrphus friuliensis?

Second one not friuliensis - I put a photo of one in the Gallery and you can see that the abdominal marks are a different shape.

| | | Re: Dasysyrphus albostriatus ? Thanks for the confirmation of the first and as for the second, I've had a look in the Gallery at your picture and I can see now that it is different.
Any ideas as to what it might be?
Many thanks |

Would anyone agree the second is a Syrphus sp.? Quote:

Agred first is D. albostriatus - it would be a useful record for the recording scheme - can you send details to me - date, locality (e.g. postcode) and recorder name. I can be contacted at roger.morris@dsl.pipex.com
Agreed second nsp. is Syrphus - they cannot be done without microscopic checking.
Regards
Roger Morris
