| | | 3 flies for ID Can anyone help me with IDs for these pics from this morning:
fly 1 around 10mm long (guess from memory), dark stripe down center of thorax with lighter stripe on either side. Looks a bit like Coenosia tigrina to me, but no orange on the legs and the abdomen is smaller.
fly 2 8mm long, green coloured femurs
fly 3 about 4mm long, large hump back thorax, eyes surround antennae. Bottom half of eyes appears to be darker.
Thanks

| | | Re: 3 flies for ID Afternoon DJ,
The first is perhaps Leucophora sp., the second we unfortunately can't get further than Chironomidae and the last is possibly Empididae, Empis sp., maybe.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: 3 flies for ID 3 is an empid, reminds me of Ocydromia but I'd have to check to be sure.

| | | Re: 3 flies for ID I forgot to say, good shots. I like the secondary, downward-looking eyes on the Empid! Like in Bibionidae, I assume they are used for keeping an eye on other members of the 'mating clouds' that form. |

| | | Re: 3 flies for ID The third is a species of Bicellaria (Hybotidae). The male of Ocydromia glabricula has a more shining body. |
