| | | Beetle Id Hi all. Found this guy under a stack of decking, playing dead!! Approx 15mm in length, he had a very bluish sheen. Found in Bristol, any ideas? |

| | | Re: Beetle Id And I have photos of some of it's relatives that are still waiting for me to attempt an ID!
As a rough guess, I would start by having a look at Pterostichus sp. but there are several species in that family and some variations between individuals of the same species.
With luck, however, one of our beetle specialists will be along soon with some more professional help! |

| | | Re: Beetle Id Sorry, can't really see enough detail. It looks somewhat like a Pterostichus but none of the common ones have a metallic sheen (and those tend to be golden rather than purplish). If it were Pterostichus then we might be looking at P. nigrita (common in damp places) from the shape of the forebody....... but I can't really say |

| | | Re: Beetle Id To be honest, I know that it is not one, but the only beetle I ever knew of wit ha bluish sheen was the Violet Ground Beetle. I know the timber it was under had been stored in Cardiff before it came to Bristol if that helps? (Near the Docks) |

Don't think it can be id with certainty from the pic. There are a few it could be?
I've run it through Harpalus myself, i did seem to hover over H.rubripes for a bit... |

| | | Re: Beetle Id Thanks all, certainly looks similar to H.rubripes and that it is consistent with the bluish sheen | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
