Unattractive hoverflyish something for ID pls

This was sunning itself this evening and caught my eye because it seemed to have two bulges on its back - which turns out to be cream and red patterning - but I haven't a clue where to start looking for a name. Any help will be much appreciated! Dill(ish) (with thanks to Jason )
