Hornet or mimic?
Photographed this from 30 feet away with a 600mm lens and only got the one photo I'm afraid. Markings don't look quite right on the abdomen to be a Hornet so is it something else? Maybe another type of wasp or a mimic?

This one is a mimic. It is the Conopid fly Conops vesicularis, the largest member of the genus in UK
