Thanks for any ID info

| | | Re: Sawfly or wasp ? Definitely a sawfly. The indentations on the top of the 'thorax' are typical and it has 9 antennal segments. I presume its a Tenthrindid, but as this family includes about 80% of all British sawflies, that's not very useful.
The wing venation might provide a bit more help, but I don't have the keys handy right now. |

| | | Re: Sawfly or wasp ? Evening Brian,
I have a feeling it's a Dolerus species ( dark colour, downy surface...), but unlike Martin I lack any keys whatsoever!
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: Sawfly or wasp ? Doesn't look right for Dolerus somehow; suspect it may be a nematine.

| | | Re: Sawfly or wasp ? Definately in the subfamily Nematinae ( vein R2 absent - this is the vein which starts from the stigma and divides cell R into two ). Have you any other pictures of the wing venation as this would help to take identification further ?
Peter

| | | Re: Sawfly or wasp ? I have been struggling with this and when I saw the subject of this thread I thought I had the same insect. However; on closer inspection, the antennae are very different. Would I be on the right lines with Ichneumon sp and can someone enlighten me as to the significance of the no. of segments when trying to identify.
Cheers

| | | Re: Sawfly or wasp ? It's a Stonefly (Plecoptera).
In some insects the male of a species has an extra antennal segment.
