sorry, not very good on insects, but i found these wonderfully coloured beetles today. first question. what are they. second question whats going on, the one in front seems to be protruding something large and black, while a smaller one is clambering atop. some sort of mating maybe?
the pictures aren't that good i'm afraid, still getting to grips with my DCR-250 and it were a bit windy, making the DoF a bit of a problem!

thanks for that, i've just realised that i've got the collins insect guide by michael chinery, which has been gathering dust since i bought it in autumn! i've seen it in there now. very strange. and as stated it was found on some dock leaves.
saw a metallic blue weevil hanging around too, a very bright collection of beetles!
