Is this fly Bibio lanigerus?

Near the S. Devon Coast Path last week.



A number of Bibio marci were flying around but the brown hind leg on this specimen makes me think about B. lanigerus instead.

But as I can't find any previous records in the SW area I would appreciate a second opinion.

Could it not be just Bibio johannis which is very common at the moment and has black femora with the rest of the leg reddish ?

Although B. johannis may be common in some areas; the closest record I can find on GBIF is even farther away than B. lanigerus.

But I agree that the black wing patches on B. johannis are a better match. And the legs also fit.

I may send it to the guy who does identification for the county records and see what he says.

If I could see evidence for it being commonly recorded here, I would be happier about B. johannis.

I've had a look at the NBN gateway map & I see what you mean !
In fact although I see quite a lot near here there aren't many records for Cumbria either.
I'll be interested to know the outcome.
