Hi all
This is a little off-topic, but it refers to something Nightshade mentioned. Using substances like Jeyes Fluid as a deterrent is now (since 1986?) illegal. The Use of Pesticides Regulations 1986 covers the use of substances (not just chemicals) as pesticides. The term pesticide covers a whole assortment of uses from fungicides to mammal deterrents.
Even some products that were designed as mammal deterrents were banned in the 1997 review of the regulations. When I was on the Local Badger Group committee, I used to give advice to homeowners on deterring badgers or foxes from their properties and used to swear by Renardine, which was one of the very few products actually licensed for use with badgers (except within the vicinity of a sett). Unfortunately, this product was banned in the 1997 review... mind you it really used to chuck up - some residents preferred the fox/badger issues to the Renardine!!!
