| | | Queen wasps Over the past couple of weeks there have been wasps coming out of the fireplaces in the living room and bedroom. I don't mind in the living room because I can easily let them out with no bother. However I have found a lot in the bedroom and on a couple of occasions in the bed!! This obviously makes me a but uneasy because I have a small baby who shares the room.
To stop the wasps coming into the bedroom I have blocked off the fireplace.
My question is, now the wasps cannot escape out of the bedroom fireplace, are the queens more likely to nest in my chimney? So is it better that they can get out? |

| | | Re: Queen wasps Hi Claire - I don't know much about anything, but I do know what it's like waiting for a reply, and it sounds like it's not a great situation. Somebody really knowledgeable will come along any minute I'm sure. But I'm wondering a) if they are bees not wasps, because I thought it's only the queen wasp that survives the winter, and you seem to have far too many queen wasps to be emerging from one old nest surely? B) if they are wasps, they do say they don't nest in the same place twice, so hopefully would be off to somewhere new? And c) if the chimney is open at the top, might it be a good time to light some citronella sticks or something in the fireplace, to waft upwards and make the chimney less attractive as a nesting option? Good luck anyway! |
