hi, i need this insect identifying. the image was taken in a woodland area in last june.

Afternoon Martyn,

I am pretty sure it's from the Hybotidae family - some from the Leptopeza genus look close, but I obviously need more experience with this family - it could just as easily be another. I found a similar one I tentatively labelled Leptopeza in woodland too.

Not sure without checking, but it could be Rhamphomyia flava.

Ah, Empididae. The eye colour would better match too I suppose.
