Yes - a nice shot showing the very wide facial area typical of a Gonia.
No - it can't be identified to species from this photo, I nedd to see some shots of the upper side of the abdomen to have a stab at it.

| | | Re: Odd fly Gonia sp? Afternoon Will,
Interesting fly, I saw this one yesterday but couldn't help. Matt, I assume this is another ' specimen and microscope' job for certainty?
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: Odd fly Gonia sp? Thanks Matt, unfortunately it flew off straight after this shot so I wasn't able to get a shot showing the abdomen. Will keep my eyes out for it in case it comes back.
Cheers
Will

| | | Re: Odd fly Gonia sp? Remarkably enough I did indeed find the same fly today, and managed to get a shot showing hopefully enough of the abdomen for an ID. From pictures I've seem it looks like Gonia picea?

Will | I'd be happy with an ID of Gonia picea, it is lacking anything in the way of red patches on the abdomen, so it keys out easily.
Could you let me have the record details for the Tachinid Recording Scheme database please?
Thanks
