pointy-winged fly


Any pointers, good people? It's not in my very limited dipteran refs...

Having googled "pointed-winged fly" in a fit of optimism that actually worked, I've now got it down to Lonchopteridae. Any advance on that?

It's most likely Lonchoptera lutea. I have the same one, seems to be fairly common once you know of their existence.

Thanks Janet - it does look close, but I wonder if the wing membrane not being brownish is significant?

No Joe, I think it's a light effect. It's more down to pattern on the thorax, leg colour and placement of bristles.
