| | | Re: Can someone ID this insect please Morning Tokka,
Do you have one of the rear of this beetle, or could you get another should you see it again? There are two very similar that can be seperated by the angle of desent of the elytra.
Take care, Jason |

Take care, Jason | Do you mean Liophloeus tessulatus Jason? The differences are explained on BugsandWeeds, this is the Vine Weevil no doubt. Beetles - Weevils

| | | Re: Can someone ID this insect please No, I don't. I just meant there are at least two of these (the genus seems to have 18 species) that look similar. Whilst we can see a lot of the beetle, I can't see the rear of the elytra or the tarsi too clearly. Yes, it was found indoors and yes - VW most likely, but I just thought it best to raise the possibility of it being something else (albeit closely-related!) for safety.
I assume the one I was thinking of specifically maybe goes under the VW tag (any idea which one, Janet/anyone? It's been mentioned on WAB before...), but as we all know common names can get confusing! Is there a key for Otiorhynchus?

| | | Re: Can someone ID this insect please O. sulcatus is the species generally referred to as Vine Weevil. According to the RHS website there are another 3 closely related species which have recently become established causing similar damage. |

| | | Re: Can someone ID this insect please Thank you all for your replies.
I have since read up on the vine weevil, and it's quite destructive to plants and particularly pot plants, it also say's it can lay about a thousand eggs? and these larvae feed on the roots of the plants, killing the plant.
Frightening
I will have to keep an eye out and try to control the situation, I haven't found any signs of chewed leaves as yet. |
