This arrived today - very large for a wasp and with reddish markings on its back made me think praps not a Common Wasp or German Wasp, but not sure where to go for a name beyond that? Help much appreciated, as ever!  |

I'm pretty sure this is a Median wasp, Dolichovespula media. |

This is definitely a queen Dolichovespula media. |

I saw a D. media queen on the 9th, I took pics from a distance for a start then pushed my way behind a shrub. There was a complete 7-spot Ladybird at the beginning next to it, it first lost it's head and pronotum then the rest disappeared. The queen slept it off.
