I didn't know this about Ladybirds until reading this today.

Shame the Link didn't work, it is a good read for those who don't know about the promiscuous Ladybirds.

I did find it - googled 'thefreelibrary+amerous ladybirds'. Most, though it made me laugh, I couldn't paste on here 
But this was interesting... The nursery Verse `Ladybird, ladybird, fly away home; your house is on fire, your children all gone', dates from the custom of setting hopfields alight at the end of the season, killing off ladybird larvae
