| | | Help with identification of a bee Hi,
Sorry no pictures, but can someone help to identify a type of bee I saw over the weekend.
It looked like a honey bee - in size and structure but was grey/white in colour. Their were about 100 all flying low over my Mum's lawn.
Thank you for your help.

I imagine it was a Mining Bee from the Adrenidae family ( their scientific classification) - but pretty much impossible to say exactly which without a photo to guide us though we can offer suggestions based on your location/habitat, and even then they can't all be identified fully without a specimen being put under the microscope ( a lot can look pretty similar, so requires a close look at the jaws perhaps, or even male genitalia!).
Could you draw it - colour banding, etc.? If not, when you return take a camera
This site may help in the mean-time: BWARS Gallery

| | | Re: Help with identification of a bee The description you give sounds like Andrena cineraria. I had a male a couple of days ago, it looked greyish to white when flying. That's a lot of bees!
