Hi,
This was feeding on Caltha palustris alba, 3rd April. Approx. 4mm.
I had to get on my elbows to get these, low plant. 
I think the details fit Peritrechus lundii, confirmation or otherwise appreciated.

It's Scolopostethus. Janet - either affinis or thomsoni, but the features are a little mixed up. |

I've compared the two, I think I will call it Scolopostethus cf. thomsoni as the antennae match better.
What other features were crossing over Joe?

The wing length is the main one - fits much better for affinis. The problem is both features are somewhat variable... |

Yes I see that, I've given both another close scrutiny (via pics!)
One thing I noticed is the legs on mine match thomsoni better with dark areas, all the pics of affinis are showing no dark areas. Mine is missing a front leg!
The antennae on mine have dark at the base of the first segment and apex of the second which also matches thomsoni well, given those two points maybe thomsoni is a better bet?

That was my hunch as well, but it may simply not be possible to be sure... leg colouring is consistent in some species, and highly variable in others, alas! |

Oh well, if I use the 'cf.' I can't really go far wrong can I for my own purposes. I won't tell any one you told me to, which you didn't anyway. (ssshhhhh).

I've been desperately trying to get some more bug pics today, of any type but it's cloudy and windy so I ended up watching that same plant!
Two different tiny wasps, a Scuttle fly scuttling around, I think I saw a couple of thrips but no bug! Maybe it got left behind, there' still a lot of leaves around they could be hiding under but I will keep watching for them.
