| | | Gall wasp Neuroterus quercusbaccarum Hi,
I found this on my floor on 28th March. Approx 3mm long.
It looks to match the pic on this site of Neuroterus quercusbaccarum, although clicking on the pic (at the top) takes you elsewhere. Cynipidae
There's also a pic of Neuroterus anthracinus gall which looks like galls I took pics of last autumn.
I certainly have the Spangle Galls, but it appears this would be an agamic female with a different type of gall.
I can't see what appears to be an ovipositor in the pic on that site, which mine has and is similar to another shown there at the bottom but it's wing venation looks different.

| | | Re: Gall wasp Neuroterus quercusbaccarum Nice pictures of an agamic female Neuroterus quercusbaccarum. They are emerging in large numbers now from spangle galls - as you said. There are two other very similar species and the agamic females, in particular, are not easy to separate. (N. albipes and N. numismalis). I am really interested in their chalcid parasitoids and have reared 100 + numismalis this week. Any galls still entire should have inquilines and parasitoids left to emerge later (I hope). |

| | | Re: Gall wasp Neuroterus quercusbaccarum Thanks Torymus.
I had plenty of galls of Neuroterus numismalis too, often on the same leaf. I guess I have N. albipes too, need to check out their galls.
Good luck with the inquilines and parasitoids, I have fun taking pics of all these on Ivy which is under the Oak tree.
I still have heaps of pics to ID (or not).
