Hatched this little fella from an oak marble gall on the 16th march. It does not look like Andricus Kollari to me! Any ideas?

| | | Re: Marble gall cutie ID It looks like a female pteromalid of some sort that has obviously made short work of the original occupant.

| | | Re: Marble gall cutie ID Just seen this. A female chalcid parasitoid. Looks like Eurytomidae. Can't see the wing venation. Did it have a dark cloud mark on each forewing? . Black body with some yellowish tan markings. If so then Sycophila biguttata. If not (all black body) Eurytoma brunniventris. |

| | | Re: Marble gall cutie ID Thankyou Torymus! I have no idea of either a black marking on wing or tan markings on body. i took about 15 pics of the little thing and none of them conclusively revealed either. also just this minute released several more from the same gall then saw your reply!

| | | Re: Marble gall cutie ID There would have been males and females (probably) - the antennae of the male look quite different to the those of the female (if Eurytoma) - so any picture of bits of antennae or the Y shape on the forewing would help ID. |

| | | Re: Marble gall cutie ID Lovely photo - female cleaning her antennae. The wing venation is not clear but it is not Sycophila - therefore although it is impossible to indentify properly there is only one known species of Eurytoma that parasitises A. kollari ie E. brunniventris. The male antennae would have made a good shot too as they are longer than female antennae and have whorls of hairs. This species is quite common and parasitises many of the oak gall causers. |
