Orymid wasp?
And another one, from our garden in May 2008. Perhaps the legs are distinctive..?

Afternoon Joe,

The rear legs do tend to look distinctive enough, but I don't have any idea which family it belongs to! To an expert I should think it would help.

Do you have any other images at all? The pterostigma is a fairly good starting point for family-IDs in my experience, but I can't see any wing venation there whatsoever!

Unfortunately no other views - it's been sitting in my files for a good while! I've suggested Orymidae from the features of the thorax, mostly, but I don't know how reliable that's likely to be...
