| | Any idea what this could be? Hi all
This crawled out of the vent to my chimney. I managed to get a couple of pics before it disappeared back in the vent. Is this a deliberate attempt at camouflage whilst in the chimney? |

the general shape and antenna look very Hemipteran-ish
what size was it? |

| | | Re: Any idea what this could be? Ooh, very nice! It's the nymph of the Fly Bug, Reduvius personatus, and yes, it is deliberate. They're predatord, so this presumably lets them get close to things that would otherwise be a little more suspicious...
I've not seen this yet, but would love to. Apparently they do appear quite regularly in houses. |

As a guide the aperture in the brick is 8mm. |

I think you're spot on. A google mentions that they bite! Although this was in the living room, there is some disturbing stuff about bed bugs! The chimney is capped, like an arch on the top, maybe something has made a home. |

| | | Re: Any idea what this could be? I wouldn't worry about them biting, although they will if handled roughly, simply in defence. Don't pick them up, and you'll have no problem - plus they will keep pest numbers down. Bed bug are an entirely different kettle of blood-sucking parasites!
We've not got a photo of the nymph yet on the British Bugs site - would you let us use this one (fully acknowledged, of course)?
