Found this cocoon in my loft today! Desperately trying to find out what it is! Can anyone help?
Its a white/creamy cocoon, but the size of my head. sort of freaked out!

I think you will find that it is a wasp nest.

I would say the Common wasp, Vespula vulgaris nest. They can get to large proportions.
This must be last year's nest, and if you didn't notice them they obviously weren't a problem. A work of art for you to admire!

Well established wasp nests can get quite big. Google images for wasp nests and compare. I might be wrong but I don't think so. Someone else will be along soon to confirm/identify. |

thanks for the quick replies. so relieved to hear that it wasn't something worse!
so do you guys think it is safe to remove by myself? or should i be calling the pest control? |

If you must remove it then I would advise pest control (only because I would be too scared to do it myself). |

There might be a Queen in there who has overwintered in it. It would be a shame to kill her, which is what the pest control would probably do, 'cos they're scared too. It obviously didn't cause you any bother last summer, so couldn't you just pretend that you didn't find it..... | | | |
