Hi

Can anybody help i saw a beetle yesterday near conifer trees it was marked just like a larch ladybird but was much bigger it was approx 4cm in length. any ideas please

Can you give us a more detailed description of the beetle please.

Whereabouts in the country did you see it?

Are you sure it was 4cm? not smaller, It is still very early for most large beetle species similar to this. Can you give further info on its appearance.

Thanks for coming back to me. I was a bit surprised by the size, It was a light brown with black stripe on each side. I live on the border of Norfolk and Suffolk near Beccles. The area i spotted it was near conifer trees.

Could it be Dendroxena quadrimaculata?

Thanks Doghound the colouring is the same but it did not have spots or the the black on its head it had a black stripe on each side

Still a bit early for Cerambycids.

I think we will need a clear drawing, also the possibility that it is an abberation of a common species. It extremely hard to ID insect from descriptions, its hard enough from photo's in a lot of cases.
