Just checking to see if this is Vespula vulgaris.
I found it asleep in my dogs jacket, which was hanging on the washing line to air off  .
One question i have is, why do they hide there wings under there body ?, probably to prevent damage i suppose, but i thought i would ask ...

Yes queens will be waking up now in sunshine. Interesting observation about the wings  I'm not aware of this.

Yes V.vulgaris, tucking in the wings is usually done through hibernation, I have seen several different species do this. As you say it is likely this protects the wings from damage. |
