Flying insects all around my house?

Hi there,

Over the last few weeks i've noticed an increasing number of flying insects throughtout my house. I have never seen them before so was wondering i could get a possible i.d.
I am unable to get a picture.

The are rounded and are about half the size of a pin head. They have dark brown and yellow stripe wings.
I am unable to find a picture that resembles them.

I was just wondering what they are and if they are harmful as i have a 16 week old who likes to roll around on the floor. The other day he has one on his face so it's worried me a little bit.

Half the size of a pinhead is quite tiny! Try googling thrips (there are some with striped wings), or perhaps booklouse (some do fly) and see if they're any use? Failing that, could you do us a drawing? It's going to be virtually impossible for us to get from the description if it's not one of the obvious candidates.

i've actually managed to identify it as a carpet beetle now. Are these harmful? What do they do?
