| | | Sneaky fly This fly got into the picture - I didn't notice it until I enlarged the shot! First one I've seen this year.
Is it possible to ID it?

| | | Re: Sneaky fly Afternoon Hed,
I have a feeling it's from the Anthomyiidae family ( based on narrow abdomen, a jist-thing, really - and they are often quite active in Spring)... I take it the flowerhead is fairly ' big'?
Take care, Jason

| | | Re: Sneaky fly Hi Jason,
Flowerhead of winter box about 1cm across, so fly less than .5cm. It's the very long wimgs that look different to me. The flowers smell sickly sweet and lots of bumblebees have been to them.

| | | Re: Sneaky fly Thanks Hed. Well, one of the smaller flies then, I'm thinking maybe Lauxiniidae, Drosophilidae or similar? I probably shouldn't try and even get that far though! |

| | | Re: Sneaky fly Top marks for trying!! I suppose it could be a sort of fruitfly as it went for the scent.
