| | | Re: nice shot of a honey bee yesterday Wow, that's an early Honey bee! It's collecting pollen too on it's baskets.
The flower, and stems do look like one I have, which flowers over winter in mild spells. Viburnum bodnantense 'Dawn' but there's two others from the same breeding, 'Deben' is one but it has white flowers.

| | | Re: nice shot of a honey bee yesterday Yes mine is pinkish in bud with a whitish middle when open, it also has red stems which are very upright but I get branches shooting off sideways. It is the most popular one of the three.
We had a very nice day yesterday up to 10C, today actually got to near 14C or that's what my thermometer said, but cloud and rain came in and that was that!
I have crocuses open, should be seeing some queen bumbles, saw one a week ago.

| | | Re: nice shot of a honey bee yesterday I saw at least 4 in Hull on the 10th feeding on snowdrops and crocuses and with their pollen baskets carrying pollen (see some photos here). I though they were quite early too, but on the other hand, it's been very mild the last few days and actually sunny, I bet they were as eager as me to get out of the house for a trip!

| | | Re: nice shot of a honey bee yesterday You guys are lucky. We haven't seen the sun for a few days and when we did have it last week the temperature was minus 5 first thing in the morning. The temperatue is rising slowly but no real signs of spring just yet.

Dave | We had those sort of night temps last week, frost every night even when we had sun on Saturday. I haven't checked the last couple of days but I don't think it's been freezing, days are warmer but yesterday felt cold with north winds even when it got to 10C.
Today it was spring!
I had 5 or 6 honey bees, unusual as I don't normally get them this early. Four Bombus terrestris queens on or in the crocus mostly resting, and one Eristalis tenax female on the crocus.
