| | | Pillarbox red weevil Stony Stratford, Bucks. On old wooden fence beneath broadleaf trees. The area below the fence is currently flooded (great Ouse) to about 10 inches.

Is it possible to determine gender with this species - for that matter with none, some or all weevil species?

This species has a wide rostrum (in males) broadest at the end and the females is slightly thinner and longer, with abit of widening at the base of the antenna (broadest part). Which makes this one a male.  (although hard to see from this angle best from above, also easiest to sex when you have a male next to a female. |
