| | | Greenhouse insect ID I visited Kew Gardens at the weekend and while in one of the greenhouses I photographed a Pitcherplant ( Nepenthes sp.). When I looked back at the picture I noticed an insect just inside the picture. Unfortunately the pictures are not clear, but can anyone tell what it is? Some sort of cricket maybe?
Thanks

| | | Re: Greenhouse insect ID Its very hard to make out. Im not sure it matches a (British) crickets head or pronotum, if thats what you mean. It could be anything perhaps its what they feed the plants so could be a foregin species. |

| | | Re: Greenhouse insect ID I had a look at Kew's site and they say The plants on display at Kew are not given meat to eat at 'feeding time' - there are sufficient midges and other small insects in the glasshouses to supply their needs.
That one looks quite large tho...

| | | Re: Greenhouse insect ID Possibly a cockroach? The Australian Cockroach (Periplaneta australasiae) is known from the hot houses at Kew.

| | | Re: Greenhouse insect ID Thanks for the input guys.
The pattening on the Australian Cockroach pronotum does look like what you can make out in my picture so it looks like that could well be it. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
