I was thinking about midday today that it was warm enough to see a butterfly. About a minute later I saw a butterfly flying behind me + as I chased to see what it was, its ID was revealed as a Red Admiral.
Not too many plants to nectar from so far, so I hope it didn't waste too much of its resources looking.
Maybe spring is on the way? |

My wife saw a butterfly in our garden today as well. think it was ared admiral as well. We live in south Essex |

I think I'll take a walk up to the common then tomorrow - with my new all -seeing specs on

Seems I'm way behind you lot ! but just seen a Red Admiral with one and a half wings greedily feasting on my snowdrops and crocus . This is the first day that the flowers have fully opened up to sunbathe  |

Tell you what aeshna5, after this long, drawn out, cold, miserable winter, if I see a butterfly I won't need to write about it on WAB, you'll hear me whooping with delight in Kent!

According to the Butterfly Conservation: Highland Branch website, a Small Tortoiseshell was seen on North Uist on the 11th of February.
None here in Aviemore yet.  |

Saw two over-wintered Small Tortoiseshells and my first freshly emerged Brimstone today, its been a lovely day here first over 10 degrees in a long while.
