| | [ID] Insects, please ()! Hi all,
Just some quick invertebrates requiring a look, thanks! Oct/Nov 2009 About 1mm, likely less. Large insect is a Chrysomelid, Longitarsus sp - Flea Beetle. Found hanging to invertebrates drowning in bodies of water. I only saw these when I had a Plant bug under the microscope. Look a little like Springtails, but tiny and orange 19 Jan 2010 Triozidae member... ...but which? Taken inside specimen pot, about 5mm inc. wings. 19 Jan 2010 Trichocerid gnat - abdomen detail and genetalia (ventral view) It seems to have a banded abdomen... Trichocera annulata per chance?
I collected the last in a specimen pot - now invaluable! I got the second shot ( of the genetalia) by chance, then later realised it could be great for ID, though ideally should be closer, under a microscope.
Thanks for looking!
Take care, Jason

| | | Re: [ID] Insects, please ()! Thanks Joe - I did hope!
Did the underside shot help at all? I found it on an Ivy plant... well, a fence under it where it's overhanging. |

| | | Re: [ID] Insects, please ()! Is the Chrysomelid dead? do you have a more clear photo? hard to say genus from this let alone species the colour seems too dark for similar species making me think this is dead. |

I freed it, and off it went. I'll upload other shots tomorrow ( Thursday) if I have them still. Should do.
Thanks John - annulata I'm sure it is too. I remembered your banded abdomen tip |

The underside shot did show the antennal colouring, which was a pretty important pointer, so certainly worth having! |

| | | Re: [ID] Insects, please ()! Excellent. As for the side shot, I should have taken that 'In the field' as opposed to through plastic
A specimen jar... pretty under-rated maybe - by me until now, anyway! Well, as I said now I have one it's become indispensible. I'll probably start a thread later showing a few shots using one, I was finding a few Springtails and got a good one ( better quality than the attached images!) of the jumping apparatus earlier. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
