Great Water Beetle
I used to drive a Beetle, but today I found one in the car's ventilation system air intake, as I was cleaning out the leaf/debris strainers. From what I can find in my sources, it looks like a great water beetle, but how/when it got there, I've no idea. I know it's been a wet year, but...

This looks like Dytiscus circumcinctus . These beetles fly and are known for landing on shiny objects such as cars mistaking them for water.

Hi,

If it thought my car was shiny, it must have been on one of the rare occasions when it was clean. However, I looked up both names (Dytiscus Circumsinctus and Dytiscus Marginalis) but couldn't decide which one. I enclose another, composite photo of top and underside for a more expert inspection.
