Mossi type for ID please
Hi, this was took at Slimbridge in the summer.
Is it Chirnous Luridus?

Afternoon Pam,

I'm not sure... someone else may be able to say if it is Chironomus luridus, or it may be one that requires genital examination or a viewing under the microscope. Either way, what a great picture! The background is good and the insect sharp.

It's a male due to the feathery, or 'plumose' antennae more technically, which has a higher surface area with which to detect the female's chemicals for mating purposes. The dark vein half-way up the outside of the wings confirm Chironomidae apparently.
