| | What on earth is this? Help, please! Hi there
I'm a refugee from the Fungus Forum!
I found this recently on the trunk of a young Beech tree in a Cotswold woodland and assume it is some sort of insect larval/pupal stage?
Please can anyone tell me what it is? Thanks. |

I would say that it has to be a Moth or Butterfly pupae, and with the amount of hair that is still attached to it my first guess would have to be Garden Tiger moth Arctia caja, the caterpillar of this species is covered in long hairs and are known as "Wooly Bears". | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
