| | | Rove beetle? Hi folks, just going through some photos from last year. This fellow was mooching around on a very wet Scottish ground in August. I think he`s a Rove beetle, but which one? Maybe staphylinus Olens?

| | | Re: Rove beetle? Yes, one of the Staphylinidae, rove beetles. Not Staphylinus sp I would think: about 12-14 mms long? I'd hazard Philonthus sp but I'm not good on these! |

| | | Re: Rove beetle? However I think some of the species with coloured elytra may have pale basal segments but not the dark species (which would'nt be confused). Its usually the underside of the base segment which is a yellow/brown colour. |
