| | | Re: Mosquitoes Hi Gordon, sounds like Culiseta annulata, one I had a couple of years ago inside. It was buzzing around my ears, and I had a nasty bite on my ankle but I didn't feel it bite! My pond was full of mossie larva, and it was only done at the end of July!
Not sure how many species but I can check it out.

Anyone interested in the complexity of mosquitoes should get/read 'Mosquitoes' by Keith Snow in the Richmond Naturalists' Handbooks series. It will be slightly out of date on some epidemiological matters now but is excellent for putting mosquitoes into focus historically, taxonomically and ecologically. Snow listed 32 British species in 1990 ....
